Hiding Places

7th April

The children looked at various tribes who live in the rainforest. Our outdoor play area included an area about the tribes, The matis, Jaguar people, we made red masks and put leaves on strings to wear. We used recycled items from the box to represent spears and pretended to hunt for food. The children also pretended to be the Yanomami, and made a shabono ring shaped house with crates and boxes, they also used a bread crate and straws to create a thatched roof. Later in the week we pretended to be The Riberenos, they travelled in hand carved canoes. We made a canoe out of a very large box, we painted it brown and put it in the jungle on a blue tarpauling to represent the Amazon. Another group had to build Riberenos house on stilts over the Amazon using various materials.

Rainforest Role Play

7th April

A rainforest play area was set up. While the children were playing an adult with a pretend axe would go to chop the trees down. This promoted the children to argue and say why they couldn't do it. This caused quite a debate with the young children.

Rainforest Leaf Display

6th April

Our display is now finished, all the children's work displayed. It looks amazing.
